Garden Party + DIY

Remember that time I went on and on about raised gardens? Remember that time I said I was going to do one myself? Well, it happened.
We “acquired” some 6×6 wooden posts (it’s nice having a husband with construction connections sometimes) and used them to make two garden beds. Each one is about 3′ wide and 8′ long. SC (my husband) drilled holes in the 6×6’s and drove rebar into the ground to secure them. He made it look really easy, but for some reason he didn’t think it was very fun. 🙂 Next we stained the wood and filled the beds with top soil.
Then it was time for the fun stuff. FOOD! I went shopping and filled the garden with peppers, tomatoes, squash, cucumber, and a couple herbs.
Of course, it needed something extra…
I’ve pinned all kinds of garden related things in the last couple years, a few of those items were cute inspiration ideas for garden markers. I decided to make my own, and it was so much easier than I anticipated…which always makes me happy. The whole project took about 30 minutes.
Items Needed:
Large Wooden “popsicle” Sticks
Spray Paint (chalk paint, black, or any color would do)
White Paint Pens (actual paint pens, not chalk pens)
1. Spread out the wooden sticks on a flat surface
2. Paint the sticks on each side and let dry
3. Using the paint pens, write the name of your plants, herbs, etc.
4. Mark your garden!
Told you it was easy.
Here are some pictures of the garden. Just ignore the grass (or weeds) all over the wood…we mowed. It happened. Oh well. It’s the outdoors. It’s not perfect.
Now let’s just cross our fingers it will grow! One of my tomato plants has a little bloom on it, so I’m expecting something yummy soon.
